Heavy Duty I/M Program Truck Certification
Are you ready for the Heavy Duty I/M Truck Certification Program?
Senate Bill 210 (Leyva; Stdatutes of 2019) has required CARB to develop and implement a new, comprehensive Heavy Duty Inspection & Maintenance Program (I/M). Heavy-duty vehicles remain one of the largest emissions contributors in the state and the purpose of this new program is to ensure trucks on the California roadways are properly maintained in order to minimize air pollutant emissions during operation. This will require both engine and emission systems to be inspected, maintained, issues identified and repaired prior to use.
By 2023, all vehicles in California will be required to supply CARB with quarterly OBD submissions and PSIP opacity results to demonstrate no active ECU codes or MIL issues exist. Failure to do so will prevent California Truck Certification and therefore also prevent DMV registration renewal.
